Advocating for Hoteliers: A Voice on Capitol Hill
Why Education, Experience, and Communication with Lawmakers Matter
In today’s hospitality landscape, legislative decisions significantly influence the success of hotel owners and the broader industry. Having a leader who is educated, experienced, and skilled in communicating with Federal and State lawmakers is essential to effectively advocate for fair policies that benefit all hoteliers.
Key legislative efforts include Shri Thanedar’s Lodging Industry Loan Limit Increase Act (LIONS Act), which seeks to raise SBA loan limits to $10 million for hoteliers, addressing the industry’s capital-intensive needs and empowering owners to expand and improve their properties. The Credit Card Swipe Fees Act, which proposes the elimination of swipe fees on taxable amounts, could relieve hotel owners of unnecessary financial burdens, putting more revenue back into their operations.
Additionally, the Hotel Transparency Act directly addresses challenges posed by short-term rental platforms like Airbnb, Sonder, and others by requiring them to display the total rental price upfront on their homepage. This legislation ensures transparency for consumers by prohibiting these platforms from adding hidden fees, such as cleaning charges, during checkout. This levels the playing field for hotels, which are already held to high standards of transparency in pricing, and helps guests make informed choices without deceptive practices.
An educated leader brings the expertise to navigate these legislative issues, and my hands-on experience in hotel operations gives me the insight to advocate for practical solutions. I’ve engaged directly with Federal and State lawmakers, advocating for hoteliers on Capitol Hill, and I’m committed to ensuring your voices are heard and your interests protected.
As your representative, I will work tirelessly to support these critical initiatives and build a fairer, more transparent hospitality industry. Together, we can strengthen our industry for future generations of hoteliers.
