Advocating for Our Industry: AAHOA Members Take on Capitol Hill
This week, AAHOA members traveled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for critical issues impacting the hospitality industry. As hoteliers, we understand the importance of having our voices heard at the highest levels of government. Meeting with state representatives on Capitol Hill was an empowering reminder that when we come together, we can influence policies that shape the future of our businesses and communities.
The Key Issues We’re Fighting For
The LIONS Act
The Lifting Our Communities through Increased SBA Loan Access (LIONS) Act proposes increasing SBA loan limits to $10 million, allowing hoteliers to access more substantial funding for acquisitions, renovations, and expansions. For an industry that thrives on growth and innovation, this legislation would provide a much-needed boost, ensuring small businesses have the resources to compete and succeed.Credit Card Swipe Fees
One of the hidden costs of running a business is the growing burden of credit card swipe fees. These fees eat into our margins and make it harder to reinvest in our properties and staff. We advocated for reforms to bring transparency and fairness to these fees, giving small businesses like ours a chance to thrive without being disproportionately impacted by high processing costs. The Overtime Pay Act
The proposed changes to overtime pay rules could have significant implications for small business owners. While we believe in fair pay for all employees, these changes must account for the unique challenges faced by hoteliers. We urged lawmakers to consider solutions that balance worker benefits with the financial realities of running a hospitality business.
Why Advocacy Matters
Advocacy is about more than policies—it’s about making sure lawmakers understand the real-world impact of their decisions on small business owners and our employees. By sharing our stories and explaining how these issues affect our industry, we help create legislation that supports growth, jobs, and innovation.
A Unified Voice
Walking the halls of Capitol Hill alongside fellow AAHOA members was a powerful experience. We came from different states, but we were united by a shared commitment to our industry and our communities. Together, we showed lawmakers that the hospitality industry is a cornerstone of the economy, deserving of policies that empower us to succeed.
Looking Ahead
Our work doesn’t stop here. Advocacy is an ongoing process, and we need your support to keep the momentum going. Whether it’s writing to your representatives, attending advocacy events, or sharing your story, every effort counts. Together, we can create a future where the hospitality industry—and the small business owners who drive it—can thrive.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Washington, D.C., and to all AAHOA members who continue to fight for the success of our industry. Together, we are stronger.
