Engaging with the Community: Stories from the Campaign Trail

One of the most rewarding aspects of this campaign journey has been the incredible opportunity to connect with our vibrant community of hoteliers and hospitality professionals. This past week, I had the privilege of attending the Gaam Volleyball Tournament in Dallas, Texas, where more than 8,000 people came together to celebrate culture, community, and camaraderie.

An Unforgettable Experience

Walking into the tournament, I was struck by the energy and unity of the event. Seeing so many people from different gaams across the U.S. coming together in one place was truly inspiring. It was more than just a volleyball tournament—it was a testament to the power of teamwork and shared traditions.

The matches were intense, the competition fierce, but what stood out most was the spirit of collaboration and camaraderie. Teams were more than just players—they were families, friends, and communities supporting one another. It reminded me of the essence of our industry: hospitality is, at its core, about people coming together to achieve something greater.

Lessons in Unity and Connection

Being at the Gaam Volleyball Tournament was a reminder of the incredible strength in unity. Each gaam brought its unique identity, but together, they formed a beautiful mosaic of our shared heritage.

As I met with players, families, and attendees, I saw firsthand the value of connection. Conversations often turned to stories about family businesses, challenges in the hospitality industry, and dreams for the future. These moments reinforced my belief that when we come together—whether on a volleyball court or in our professional lives—there’s nothing we can’t achieve.

The Campaign Trail: Building Relationships

Events like this are why I’m passionate about running for AAHOA Western Division Young Professionals Director. They highlight the importance of engaging with the people we serve, understanding their needs, and celebrating the communities that shape our industry.

Over the course of this campaign, I’ve had countless opportunities to listen to the stories of young professionals and hoteliers. Whether it’s at events like the Gaam Volleyball Tournament or through one-on-one conversations, each interaction strengthens my commitment to building a future that empowers us all.

Looking Ahead

The spirit I witnessed in Dallas—of teamwork, perseverance, and shared goals—is the same spirit I want to bring to my work as Young Professionals Director. Just as teams on the court worked together to succeed, we as hoteliers can achieve greatness by supporting one another, sharing knowledge, and staying connected.

I’m grateful for the chance to engage with so many of you and to see our community at its best. These experiences are what drive me to advocate for your success and to ensure that our industry continues to thrive.

Thank you to everyone I met at the tournament for your warmth, support, and stories. Let’s continue this journey together, united by our shared vision for a brighter future.

Together, we can achieve more.
